SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Feed The Children, PepsiCo, Springfield Rescue Mission and Price Rite are bringing two semi tractor-trailers full of food and essentials to Springfield to help 800 families in need. The food and essentials will be distributed to families at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield.
More than one in three children living in Springfield (40 percent) is considered impoverished. In fact, the number of impoverished children living in Massachusetts (200,817) could fill The MassMutual Center in Springfield more than 23 times.
PepsiCo is a longtime partner with Feed The Children and is sponsoring the distribution. PepsiCo and Price Rite are providing products to families at the event, including Frito-Lay snacks, Lipton tea, Quaker Oats and Quaker granola bars, packaged foods and fresh produce.
Feed The Children partner agency Springfield Rescue Mission has pre-identified families receiving the boxes. In addition to the products provided by PepsiCo and Price Rite, each family will receive a 25-pound box of food and a box of personal care items from Feed the Children. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.
The distribution is part of Feed The Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped more than 395,000 families across the country since it began in 2009.
"Our Americans Feeding Americans project continues to help those adversely affected by the economy," said Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. "With the help of PepsiCo, Springfield Rescue Mission and Price Rite, this distribution will provide relief for them at a crucial time."
